Last week showed a really strong development in the overall tanker market. Weekly earnings strengthened on a weekly basis with 22% in the VLCC segment. In addition, a really tight Aframax market gave several opportunities for ship owners in the suezmax segment trading in the black sea. The average spot rates rose to over $100.000 in both Suezmax- and Aframax segments, meaning all super tanker segments are looking at spotrates above $100.000. In general, we have seen a much tighter market and an extremely high activity level due to the embargo of russian oil which will be effective from the 5th of December.

Another really challenging week in the dry bulk market. The average spot rate weakened with 39% indicating a tough week for the capesize ship owners. In the Panamax segment we saw a little rise in activity in the Atlantic, however towards the weekend the market slowed down and the rates softened compared to last week levels. Within the Supramax segment a shortage of available tonnage in the US Gulf made the rates on the USG – Continent increase a bit to $22.500/day. However, overall the rates ended down compared to last week.
