The rates in the large tankers segment have fallen marginally going into the new year. There has been fair activity out of the Middle East, but contrarily very quiet in the West. This combined with a relatively long tonnage list is the reason for the fall. Short term it looks like the trend will continue for the next couple of weeks. An X-factor in the market in the near future will be if the US and Iran gets a nuclear deal in place.

Medium size dry bulk tanks have gained a boost at the new year, Capesize grows marginally though the smallest classes have fallen back a bit. The rates in Panamax have risen by about 12% compared to the week before. Regarding the latest contracts in the paper market, it appears to be a strong market in the near future.
