Tankers:

It has relatively been a calm start to the new year in the tanker market. In general, there is an oversupply of tonnage which means that the spot market remains below B/E levels. Shipowners hope that the long tonnage list during Christmas/beginning of the year will pave the way for more activity towards the end of the month.

Aframax – 12 month TC: $15,875 pr. day
Aframax – Average spot market rate: $4,006 pr. day

Dry Bulk:

The dry cargo market is very strong during the day. The contracts concluded in the market now are the highest since October. In this market, on the other hand, it is the tenants who are under pressure and not the shipowners. It is also worth noting that the Capesize rates so far in 2021 are the highest since 2015.

Capesize 12 month TC: $18,875
Kamsarmax 12 month TC: $12,500

S&P:

Tankers:

The demand for vintage tonnage this week has been high. Compared to similar transactions before Christmas, prices have actually increased. Among other things, a VLCC (300,609 dwt, built in 2003, I.H.I. (Kure) was sold for $24.6m. In comparison, an identical ship was sold in November 2020 for $23.8m.

Dry Bulk:

Scorpio Bulkers (which sells away all dry cargo ships in its fleet) has sold a 2018 built Kamsarmax (82,012 dwt, built 2018, Jiangsu New YZJ) at a value of $22.25m.
